ImpacTex

ImpacTex

We are partnered with ImpacTex (formerly UPPAREL) to help reduce the environmental impact the fashion and textile industry has on the planet.

From the conception of our brand doing the right thing has been important to our team and customers. We believe it is the responsibility of every individual to be a good citizen, and while being a small player in a global market can at times be daunting, we believe our impact reduction on the environment can be just as significant as larger operations and that we can all make a difference. Thats why weve partnered with ImpacTex, New Zealands leading textile recycling company.
The Problem

New Zealand
is the largest producer of waste per capita and has the lowest recycling rates in the
OECD. Textile Waste being one of New Zealands fastest growing waste streams, with around 220million kgs of clothing and textile waste being dumped in New Zealand landfills every year.

The Solution.

For every 1kg of textiles that avoids landfill, approximately 3-4kg of greenhouse gases are prevented from polluting the atmosphere. 100% of the items that go to ImpacTex are reused, recycled or repurposed meaning nothing is sent off-shore or to landfill.

Who is ImpacTex?

Changing the whole system, ImpacTex is New Zealand’s leading textile recycling company. They are trusted and transparent and exisit to create change for future generations.

ImpacTexs goal is to aid in a circular economy and reduce the environmental impact the fashion and textile industry has on the planet. They have partnered with local charities and companies to give donated clothing a second life. Approximately 65% of the items donated are in new or fit-to-wear condition. These items are hand-sorted and passed on to their charity partners. The remaining 35% is either repurposed or transformed into new materials.

How does it work?

Once the textiles are sorted and assessed as suitable for recycling the items are decommissioned, removing all hardware such as zips and buttons. The textiles are then broken down through an industrial tearing process to create a fine fluffy fibre. This unique recycled fibre can then be used to create products such as home insulation, couch cushioning, pet beds, wall partitions, acoustic panelling, and so much more commonly turning
unusable waste into their RETEX product (100% NZ textile waste and 100% recyclable in NZ) panels.
